A GROUNDING PLACE · COLORADO TELEHEALTH
Online Trauma Therapy in Colorado
You deserve more than getting through the day.
Past experiences may be showing up in ways you didn’t expect—feeling on edge, shutting down, questioning yourself, or finding it difficult to trust and connect.
I offer a warm, collaborative space for adults navigating the effects of trauma. Together, we can make sense of what you’re experiencing, develop ways to feel more grounded, and explore approaches that fit your needs and pace.

Choice in the process Time to build trust Support at your pace
Trauma can affect
more than memories.
You may notice it in the way you brace for conflict, question your own needs, pull away from closeness, or stay busy because slowing down feels uncomfortable. These responses can be difficult to understand, especially when an experience happened long ago or was part of everyday life growing up.
Whether you’re seeking support after a single event or exploring the effects of ongoing childhood or relational experiences, we can begin with what is happening for you now. You don’t need to know what to call your experience before reaching out.
BEGINNING OUR WORK TOGETHER
Trauma therapy at a pace that respects you.
We begin by getting to know you: what brings you to therapy, what feels difficult now, and what you hope might change. We also explore the relationships, resources, and strengths that support you. You can share your history gradually as we build a working relationship.
Together, we develop ways to manage distress and reconnect with the present. We’ll pay attention to what helps you feel more grounded, how you notice overwhelm, and when it may be helpful to pause or adjust.
As our work develops, we’ll consider which approaches fit your needs and readiness. You can ask questions, let me know when something doesn’t feel right, and help shape how we move forward. We’ll regularly check in about your goals and how therapy is feeling for you.
You might recognize
some of these experiences.
You may be seeking support for a few of these patterns, or for something that feels harder to put into words.
Feeling shut down
You sometimes feel numb, distant, or disconnected from yourself and others. Finding words for what is happening inside may feel difficult.
A harsh inner voice
You may blame yourself for what happened, question your reactions, or carry a persistent sense that you should have handled things differently.
Feeling on guard
You find yourself anticipating what might go wrong, bracing for someone’s reaction, or struggling to settle even when you have time to rest.
Trust feels difficult
Closeness may bring uncertainty. You might pull away, struggle to express your needs, or find yourself putting others’ comfort ahead of your own.
Together, we can explore these patterns in the context of your experiences, relationships, and life today.
CARE FOR MIND AND BODY
My approach to trauma therapy
I’m Adrienne Burns, a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 13 years of experience as a therapist. I support adults navigating trauma, including the ongoing effects of childhood and relational experiences.
My work brings together conversation, EMDR, and body-based approaches, guided by your needs and preferences. When trauma and grief overlap, we can make space for both.
Conversation and connection
We can explore how your experiences affect relationships, boundaries, emotions, and the way you see yourself. Our work makes room for understanding these patterns with compassion and considering changes that matter to you.
EMDR therapy
I’ve used EMDR therapy since 2018. When appropriate, it can be part of our work with distressing memories and the beliefs, emotions, and body sensations connected with them. We prepare together before memory processing.
Trauma-sensitive yoga
As a certified facilitator, I offer Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) as an optional body-based approach. Through invitations to notice sensations and explore movement, you have choices about how you participate. No previous yoga experience is needed.
Questions about starting trauma therapy
-
No, you don’t need a PTSD diagnosis or certainty about whether your experiences “count” as trauma. If past experiences are affecting how you feel, relate to others, or move through daily life, we can explore that together. We can begin with what is bringing you to therapy now.
-
You don’t need to share your full story right away. We’ll begin by getting to know one another, discussing what you hope to change, and identifying supports that help you feel more grounded. You can share your history gradually, and we’ll talk together about what feels useful to explore. There is room to pause, ask questions, and adjust our pace.
-
No, EMDR and trauma-sensitive yoga are options we can discuss, rather than requirements for working together. We can focus on conversation, understanding patterns, and developing ways to navigate difficult emotions and experiences. If you’re interested in another approach, I’ll explain what it involves so you can decide whether you’d like to explore it.
-
